The East Bench Community is being redesigned. Known for its affluent and beautiful residential neighborhoods, the community is also home to Hogle Zoo, Red Butte Gardens, the Natural History Museum, and the University of Utah.
The current master plan for the East Bench was adopted in 1987. Job growth and popular cultural attractions have put the community on the map, and its residential neighborhoods have struggled to maintain their character. Salt Lake City’s planning division began drafting plans to update the community in 2011, and their work has progressed to the point that they are seeking public support.
The Planning Division held a neighborhood open house on Thursday February 11th to discuss plans for the future of the East Bench Community. The plans will impact how East Bench, University, Sunnyside, Foothill, and other surrounding neighborhoods will look for the next twenty years. The East Bench Master Plan and the Parleys Way Corridor Plan are complete and open for public review until February 29th.
Community members who would like to give feedback on either plan can go to slcgov.com/opencityhall or call the senior planner, John Anderson, at 801.535.7214
