Plumtree Plaza, a 27-acre mall off of University Avenue, is one of the closest shopping centers to Brigham Young University. Despite its prime location, Plumtree Plaza has struggled to hold onto tenants and prevent businesses from moving to other locations. Now, the City of Provo is talking with developers to revitalize the shopping center and bring new housing options to the BYU community.
Provo officials are working with Westpoint Capital Partners, LLC to create a mixed use space, complete with retail centers, offices, and housing units. Many hope the new facilities will encourage BYU students to live, work, and shop closer to home.
“We want to see a place where citizens are comfortable living, they’re going to be comfortable visiting, they’re going to be comfortable using the new modes of transportation that we’re going to take into there,” Corey Norman, deputy mayor of Provo City, said in a FOX13 interview.
