Utah County is experiencing rapid population growth. Utah County grew by 13,671 people from July 2014 to July 2015, on par with Salt Lake County’s population growth of 14,426. Three years earlier, Salt Lake County’s population growth exceeded Utah County’s by nearly 7,000 people.
Utah County’s population growth is fueled by its burgeoning tech industry. The rapid expansion of available jobs has brought IT professionals from across the country to cities like Provo and Orem. Opportunities for affordable housing have made Utah County one of the fastest growing counties in the nation.
Although Utah County and Salt Lake County compete to attract new residents, Utah County is a substantial contributor to the state’s overall population growth. “This data set is really highlighting that the epicenter of growth for the state’s population still really is northern Utah County, southern Salt Lake County. But it’s really intensifying in northern Utah County,” Pamela Perlich, Director of Demographic Research at the University of Utah’s Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, said in a recent Deseret News interview.
Rapid expansion in Wasatch County and Morgan County has also contributed to the Utah’s rapidly growing population.
